About Heron Lakes

Heron Lakes is a premium holiday lodge park in East Yorkshire, set within 75 acres of landscaped countryside.

Featuring tranquil lakes, abundant wildlife, and luxury lodges, it offers fishing, boating, and nature walks—providing a peaceful, high-end retreat for holidaymakers and lodge owners seeking relaxation and natural beauty.

The Challenge

Heron Lakes’ parent company had previously worked with One2Call on a telephony and internet solution for a remote quarry site. Impressed by our expertise, they engaged us to consult on connectivity for a new office at their luxury lodge park.

During the scoping and discovery stage, we identified several major issues with the existing internet infrastructure:

  • A long-range point-to-point internet connection using an antenna, which suffered from poor performance in high winds, high latency, and was unreliable for streaming or calls.

  • A single, large, visually intrusive distribution pole providing third-party internet services to lodges, generating no revenue for Heron Lakes yet causing customer complaints due to low bandwidth and poor reliability.

Heron Lakes needed a better, more reliable solution that would improve connectivity for both the business and lodge residents while also creating a new revenue stream.

The Solution

Understanding the customer’s needs, we designed an innovative solution that transformed connectivity across the site:

  • Installed a 1Gbps full fibre leased line to the park, providing high-speed, reliable internet.

  • Replaced the existing, unsightly distribution pole with multiple smaller, strategically placed poles to locally distribute the leased line to each lodge.

  • Implemented a revenue-generating model, allowing Heron Lakes to charge end users for premium internet service.

  • Equipped each lodge with a Unify Cube device and small point-to-point connection, enabling residents to enjoy high-speed internet, stream TV, and make video calls without issues.

  • Collaborated with the customer’s groundworks teams to ensure seamless installation of poles and trench work according to our specifications.

  • As the park expanded, we adapted by installing additional poles. In one particularly wooded area where line-of-sight was compromised, we ran a dedicated fibre connection, demonstrating our flexibility and technical expertise.

The Results

Our innovative approach delivered a high-performance, scalable internet solution that benefits both Heron Lakes and its residents:

  • Drastically improved internet reliability and speed across the entire park, ensuring seamless streaming, video calls, and general online activities.
  • Transformed internet service into a revenue-generating asset for the business, turning a previous cost burden into a profit centre.
  • Increased resident satisfaction, eliminating previous complaints about unreliable service.
  • Flexible and future-proof design, allowing for seamless expansion as new lodges are added to the park.
  • Ongoing full-service support, ensuring both Heron Lakes and its residents receive expert technical assistance whenever needed.

Through a combination of technical expertise, innovative thinking, and close collaboration, One2Call provided Heron Lakes with a robust and scalable connectivity solution that directly enhanced both business operations and customer experience.
